While stories of Sheryl Crow on rollerblades in a lobby and Ace Frehley ruining a bathtub may sound like the makings of urban legend, the lore of Days Inn Chicago ® actually involves these rockers in addition to a number of other musical legends.
Days Inn ® Chicago hotel has been a home away from home for musicians and bands over the years considering its laid back atmosphere and proximity to a number of iconic venues including the Metro, the Vic and the Riviera. In addition to the traditional “rocker meets hotel” tales of messy rooms, loitering groupies, and unusual late-night requests, Days Inn Chicago ® staff recalls both heartwarming and heart-attack causing interactions with numerous musicians over the years, some of their favorites include:
Ace Frehley: It’s no big surprise that the KISS rocker’s hair and of course his make-up aren’t natural. The hair dye he used permanently discolored the tile of Days Inn ® tub, although the cleaning staff claims he was an apologetic gentleman.
Beck: The quirky rocker rounded up a group of fans waiting for him in the lobby and took them all in a cab with him to go see his show.
Kurt Cobain and Courtney Love: Before he died, Cobain claimed that he and Love conceived daughter Frances Bean when Nirvana was touring in Chicago and they were staying at the hotel.
Sheryl Crow: She was kindly asked to remove her rollerblades by the front desk clerk as she skated through the hotel’s lobby.
The Offspring: Playing true rocker bad boys, this California punk band had to be escorted off the roof which caused them to then be escorted out of the hotel.
Other rockers that have stayed at the hotel include The Flaming Lips, The Goo Goo Dolls, and The Red Hot Chili Peppers.

While certificates and plaques look fancy mounted on the wall, they can’t guarantee a good night’s sleep or provide personal attention and friendly service. The Days Inn ® Chicago takes their numerous accolades seriously with a continued commitment to providing each and every guest an award winning stay.
The hotel recently won Days Inn® Property of the Year for 2009, at the Wyndham Hotel Group Conference held in Las Vegas. This is the second time Days Inn® Chicago has taken home that award (they were also a 2004 recipient). With the winning combination of modern amenities and well-appointed rooms, the property separates itself by offering a great Chicago location at an affordable price.
The Days Inn ® Chicago outdistances other hotels with an outstanding, knowledgeable staff. Mirroring the success of the hotel itself, General Manager Stefanie Hrejsa won the 2009 General Manager of the Year award for the second straight year competing with 1,700 other property managers. In addition, the Days Inn Chicago received its 10th consecutive Chairman’s Award, which is given to any properties that receive a perfect score during an undercover inspection. This exemplifies the housekeeping’s staff dedication to making the well-appointed guest rooms a meticulously clean and comfortable refuge.
As one of the only hotels in the Lincoln Park/Lakeview area, Days Inn® Chicago gets guests right in the action with its proximity to Wrigley Field, DePaul University and a number of other venues, while only being a short cab ride away from the heart of downtown.
With well-appointed rooms, modern amenities, a friendly staff, all at an affordable price, it’s no surprise that the Days Inn® Chicago has the awards and accolades to show off their success.
