While stories of Sheryl Crow on rollerblades in a lobby and Ace Frehley ruining a bathtub may sound like the makings of urban legend, the lore of Days Inn Chicago ® actually involves these rockers in addition to a number of other musical legends.
Days Inn ® Chicago hotel has been a home away from home for musicians and bands over the years considering its laid back atmosphere and proximity to a number of iconic venues including the Metro, the Vic and the Riviera. In addition to the traditional “rocker meets hotel” tales of messy rooms, loitering groupies, and unusual late-night requests, Days Inn Chicago ® staff recalls both heartwarming and heart-attack causing interactions with numerous musicians over the years, some of their favorites include:
Ace Frehley: It’s no big surprise that the KISS rocker’s hair and of course his make-up aren’t natural. The hair dye he used permanently discolored the tile of Days Inn ® tub, although the cleaning staff claims he was an apologetic gentleman.
Beck: The quirky rocker rounded up a group of fans waiting for him in the lobby and took them all in a cab with him to go see his show.
Kurt Cobain and Courtney Love: Before he died, Cobain claimed that he and Love conceived daughter Frances Bean when Nirvana was touring in Chicago and they were staying at the hotel.
Sheryl Crow: She was kindly asked to remove her rollerblades by the front desk clerk as she skated through the hotel’s lobby.
The Offspring: Playing true rocker bad boys, this California punk band had to be escorted off the roof which caused them to then be escorted out of the hotel.
Other rockers that have stayed at the hotel include The Flaming Lips, The Goo Goo Dolls, and The Red Hot Chili Peppers.
